Shopify Shipping Introduces Included Shipping Insurance (2022)

No matter what you sell, shipping insurance can offer an extra layer of protection when you ship products to customers. Along with the continued growth in e-commerce sales, package theft (aka home piracy), loss and damage is also on the rise.

Our research shows that 1 in 10 packages in the US arrives damaged, while one in three Americans has had a package stolen. In most cases, when a package is lost, stolen or damaged, the burden falls on the business to either issue a refund or replace the product. When this happens, you lose time and money on customer support and replacement shipping, and potential future purchases from buyers who had a negative shipping experience.

In partnership with Shipsurance, this included insurance is available to businesses on Shopify, Advanced and Shopify Plus plans, and applies to domestic and international shipments originating in the US.     • Save time and money on replacements. If the shipment needs to be replaced, you can recover the value of the original damaged/lost/stolen item, as well as the shipping cost. File your claim directly from the Shopify admin (which only takes a minute) to speed up the process.
    • Provide a better buying experience for your customers. Communicate your shipping insurance coverage (on your site’s FAQ, products, shipping and returns pages, etc.) to help convince and convert customers. Also, cut out the step of dealing with the shipping carrier to deliver and wait for reimbursement.
    • Increase your repeat sales. With simpler and more comprehensive shipping insurance coverage, you automatically deliver shipping convenience and protection to your customers—which helps build trust and loyalty.
